2:35 PM: A 22-year-old man was arrested in connection with a stabbing that critically injured another man during a fight in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood on Wednesday night, a police spokesman said today.
Clifton Thomas was arrested on suspicion of stabbing the 36-year-old victim around 8:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Market Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
The pair allegedly got into an argument that turned physical, and witnesses told investigators that Thomas stabbed the victim multiple times in his back, Esparza said.
The suspect walked away before emergency crews arrived, but witnesses were able to describe him to police, according to Esparza.
Esparza said the victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are considered life-threatening.
After officers responded to the hospital to investigate the stabbing, a man matching the suspect’s description walked into the hospital to be treated for some cuts to his hand, Esparza said.
Officers saw that the man, later identified as Thomas, matched the exact description of the suspect and arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Esparza.
Although an arrest has been made, Esparza said police are still encouraging people who may have witnessed the stabbing to call the department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
12:54 PM: A man was critically injured in a stabbing in San Francisco’s Mid-Market neighborhood on Wednesday night, police said today.
The stabbing was reported at 8:32 p.m. in the 1100 block of Market Street, between Sixth and Seventh streets.
The 36-year-old victim got into an argument with a suspect, who stabbed him multiple times, according to police.
The suspect, a 22-year-old man, fled but was later apprehended.
Police have not yet released his name.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are considered life-threatening, police said.
