police-light-bar1.jpgA woman was critically injured when she tried to retrieve her purse from a suspect who snatched it in San Francisco’s Sunset District on Wednesday morning, police said.

The robbery was reported at 10:49 a.m. near 19th Avenue and Kirkham Street.

The suspect approached the 60-year-old woman from behind, snatched her purse and then ran to his vehicle, according to police.

The victim gave chase and tried to grab onto the suspect’s vehicle, a silver SUV, police said. She was knocked to the ground as the suspect drove away.

The woman was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for a head injury that is considered life-threatening, according to police.

A detailed description of the suspect was not immediately available. He remains at large.
