They came in for locks of hair, but now one of them is locked up.
One woman was arrested and three others remain outstanding after they allegedly went into a San Francisco beauty supply store, cut hair weaves from a display case and then fled on Wednesday evening, a police spokesman said.
The robbery was reported at about 6:30 p.m. at the Sally Beauty Supply store at 2675 Geary Blvd., in the old Sears/Mervyns shopping complex.
The suspects walked into the store and surrounded the area where the hair weaves are displayed. A store employee tried to intervene after she noticed one of the suspects had some sort of box cutter or knife that she was using to cut the weaves off of the display, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.
One of the suspects pushed the employee, and as the alleged thieves tried to leave, a second suspect hit another employee on the arm, Manfredi said.
The suspects fled with five hair weaves and drove away, but witnesses were able to get a good description of the car and its license plate number, and the car was spotted by police shortly afterward in the 1600 block of Eddy Street, which is near Steiner, according to Manfredi.
A suspect then came out to the vehicle and was detained by officers. The woman, 25-year-old San Francisco resident Jade Davis, was identified by the store employees as one of the robbers and was arrested, Manfredi said.
The other three suspects remain outstanding. All three are black women believed to be between 18 and 21 years old, one of whom was wearing a green knit cap, black jacket, blue jeans and bright pink boots, according to Manfredi.
Witnesses described the second suspect as wearing a black scarf, gray jacket, black pants and dark shoes, while the third had black hair with highlights, a black jacket, acid-washed jeans, dark shoes and a large black purse, he said.
Neither of the employees were injured and the five hair weaves, which Manfredi said are “fairly expensive,” have not been found.
Police obtained video surveillance from the store that they hope will lead to the arrests of the other suspects, he said.
An employee at the store this morning declined comment on the incident, referring inquiries to the company’s corporate office. A spokesperson from the company was not immediately available.
