A fatal shooting in San Francisco’s Mission District Friday evening has left area residents upset, saying “kids are out” at the time of that homicide.

As previously reported, officers responded to reports of shots fired near 23rd and Shotwell streets at around 7:20 p.m. and found a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.

The victim, identified by the Chron as 39-year-old Ronald Monzon of Newman, CA, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The victim’s vehicle had collided with another unoccupied vehicle, police said.

Police said the shooting is under investigation and no suspect information was immediately available. According to the Ex, “there was no known motive to the shooting.”

Mission Local spoke with several area residents, who said that the early hour of the shooting had left many in the area shaken.

“I usually would be coming home around that time after picking [my daughter] up,” said one.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
