wave.jpgA high surf advisory is in effect along Bay Area coastlines this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in effect through 9 a.m. this morning in the North Bay, San Francisco, Peninsula and Monterey Bay coastal areas, weather officials said.

Northwest swells are expected to reach up to 18 feet in some areas with breakers up to 20 feet, according to weather officials.

Steeper beaches will see larger breaking waves. Rip currents and sneaker waves are also likely in these conditions, weather officials said.

Weather officials said local beaches are at risk of erosion.
