police-light-bar1.jpg9:15 AM: An explosion at a house in San Francisco’s Ingleside neighborhood on Tuesday night that injured a woman and a boy was apparently caused by someone trying to manufacture drugs, a police spokesman said today.

The blast was reported at 8:50 p.m. at 1228 Capitol Ave., near Ocean Avenue, a fire dispatcher said.

Firefighters responded and put out the fire, which was already nearly extinguished upon their arrival, the dispatcher said.

The firefighters cut off utilities at the home and called police after determining that the explosion may have been drug-related, the dispatcher said.

Police investigators arrived and determined that a butane tank had exploded as drugs were allegedly being manufactured, police spokesman Sgt. Daryl Fong said.

A 33-year-old woman and a juvenile boy transported themselves to a hospital to be treated for burns, Fong said. He did not know the extent of their injuries.

The woman could be arrested in connection with the explosion, Fong said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
