Porter Robinson is 19 years old and on a world tour.
The electro producers’ show Friday night at the Fox Theater in Oakland was filled with ecstatic fans his age, and many that were much older. Energy and volume were maxed out for this installment of Noise Pop’s 20th birthday.
While the show wasn’t completely sold out, the floor of the theater was packed and even the balcony had its fair share of glow sticks. Confidence was no issue for Robinson as he tore through a high-energy set of his own tracks and classics like “Seventeen Years” by Ratatat, and even had singer pennybirdrabbit come out to sing her track with Skrillex, “All I Ask Of You.”
This year is going to be a big one for Robinson. He’s scheduled for sold out festivals like Ultra in Miami, and both weekends of Coachella. He’ll also be playing festivals in Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia and Belgium, as well as club shows in plenty of the countries in between. Not a bad excuse to skip college.
