An injured mew gull with fishing lure caught in its beak was spotted again at Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park this morning, and wildlife rescuers are at the scene trying to catch the bird, rescue officials said.
The young gull was seen earlier this morning near the pagoda at Stow Lake, Rebecca Dmytryk, spokeswoman for the wildlife rescue group WildRescue, said shortly before 10 a.m.
Local birders first spotted the gull last Friday in Golden Gate Park with barbed hooks in its beak, Dmytryk said.
Volunteers with the Moss Landing-based rescue group have visited the park multiple times since then to try to rescue the bird but have so far been unsuccessful.
Four volunteers were at Stow Lake this morning for the capture attempt.
Wildlife officials believe the bird can drink water, but is weakened because it is likely unable to eat.
