A bicyclist who apparently ran into a car this morning in San Francisco was helped out of the street after the accident by none other than Police Chief Greg Suhr.

The accident occurred shortly before noon at Fourth and Folsom streets in the city’s South of Market neighborhood, where witnesses said the bicyclist struck a silver Honda that was stopped at the intersection.

Suhr, who was across the street at a Martin Luther King Day celebration, heard about the accident and ran over, and was one of the first to help the bicyclist get out of the street.

The bicyclist, who appeared to be in his 20s, had a visible welt on his head but was conscious when he was taken away by an ambulance.
