8:32 AM (Dan McMenamin/Sasha Lekach Bay City News): A man who was killed in a shooting in San Francisco’s Bayview District on Thursday night has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 30-year-old Rory Jones.

The shooting was reported at about 8:25 p.m. at Revere Avenue and Jennings Street.

Jones was sitting in his car when a man approached and asked him if he had any “weight,” – a street expression for drugs, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.

When Jones said he didn’t, the suspect then shot him, Manfredi said.

Jones got out of the car and ran down the 1600 block of Jennings Street until he collapsed at the end of the block, where he was found and taken to San Francisco General Hospital.

Hospital personnel pronounced him dead shortly after 9 p.m., Manfredi said.

The suspect, who remains outstanding, was only described as a man in his 20s who was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt, according to Manfredi.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.

The homicide is the second in San Francisco in 2012.
