A man was seriously injured in an attack in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood on Wednesday night, police said.
Officers responded at about 10:35 p.m. to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of Eddy Street, which is near Larkin Street.
They arrived to find a 36-year-old man suffering from a blunt force wound to his head. Police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said investigators do not yet know what the victim was hit with, but that it does not appear he was shot.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital. His injuries were initially considered life-threatening, but he is now expected to survive and was able to talk to investigators, Esparza said.
A witness told police he saw the victim and suspect get into an altercation, then saw the victim fall to the ground, according to Esparza.
The suspect, who is still at large, is described as a black man between 30 and 35 years old who was wearing a gray zip-up jacket and gray baseball cap, Esparza said.

A few hours after the Tenderloin attack, a man was stabbed to death in the city’s South of Market neighborhood.
In that case, police responded to Sixth and Stevenson streets around 2:40 a.m. to conduct a well-being check. Arriving officers found a man believed to be about 30 years old in the street, suffering from an apparent stab wound.
The man was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he died.
