sfpd_squad.jpgA man was critically injured when he was hit in the head during a home invasion in San Francisco’s Portola neighborhood on Wednesday morning, police said.

The attack was reported at 11:02 a.m. at an apartment in the 1300 block of Silliman Street.

The 32-year-old victim was sleeping and awoke to discover an intruder inside the apartment, according to police.

The intruder, a man in his 20s or 30s, struck the victim several times in the head with some sort of heavy yellow blunt object, police said.

When the victim began yelling, the suspect fled without taking any property from the apartment, police said.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are considered life-threatening.

The suspect, who investigators determined had forced entry into the home through a security gate, had not been found as of this morning, police said.

Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
