10:48 AM: A man was critically injured Monday night when he was stabbed on a San Francisco Municipal Railway bus by a woman who had borrowed his cellphone, a police spokesman said.
The stabbing was reported at about 9:30 p.m. on a 19-Polk bus near Turk and Hyde streets in the Tenderloin, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.
The 50-year-old victim was sitting on the bus when a female sat down next to him and asked to borrow his phone, Esparza said. The man handed it to her but then she refused to give it back.
The victim then forcefully took back the phone, at which point the suspect stabbed him in the chest, then got off the bus and ran west on Turk Street, according to Esparza.
The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his stab wounds, which are considered life-threatening.
The suspect–described as a black woman around 20 years old who is about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighs about 140 pounds, has black hair and brown eyes and was wearing a brown, silky dress–had not been arrested as of this morning, Esparza said.
Investigators have obtained the surveillance video from the bus and are hoping to use it to identify the suspect, he said.
