12/12 9:05 AM: A woman killed in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood on Friday night has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 72-year-old Hao Mei Wu.

Police and firefighters were called to the 200 block of Justin Drive (Note: though SFPD describes the area as Bernal Heights, Appeal commenter wordygirl says this area is St. Mary’s Park) around 10:30 p.m. Friday where they found Wu lying on the floor unconscious.

When the fire crew arrived to try to revive her, they encountered a suspect who was combative and holding a knife. The suspect then stabbed himself in the neck before advancing toward the fire crew in a threatening manner, according to police.

The firefighters were able to take the knife away from the suspect as police arrived and helped to strap him to a medic backboard, police said.

The suspect, whose name was not immediately released, was taken to San Francisco General Hospital in police custody to be treated for his injuries, police said.

Wu succumbed to her injuries at the scene. Police have not yet released the cause of her death.
