bart_generic.jpg12:55 PM: BART trains are slowly returning to regular service after a fallen tree caused major delays on the Fremont line this morning, BART spokeswoman Luna Salaver said.

At 10:43 a.m., a BART train struck a tree south of the Hayward station. No injuries were reported, but the train was stopped on the tracks where it hit the obstruction, disrupting service in both directions, according to BART.

Crews were still working to remove that debris when a tree branch fell on the tracks in Union City at 11:32 a.m., Salaver said.

Service was restored at 12:04 a.m. once the debris was removed from both of those locations.

“Customers should expect slight delays as we get back on schedule,” Salaver said.

11:57 AM: A BART train struck a tree or tree branch near the Hayward station this morning, resulting in major delays on the Fremont line, BART spokesman Jim Allison said.

No injuries were reported, but the train is stopped on the tracks where it hit the obstruction just outside the Hayward station, and service is disrupted in both directions, he said.

The train struck the tree or tree branch at 10:43 a.m., and Allison said BART has been turning southbound trains around at the Hayward station. Northbound trains coming from Fremont are turning around at the South Hayward station.

Allison said BART is working on setting up shuttle buses between the South Hayward and Hayward stations.

“Obviously if they are in South Hayward and need to go farther north, they’ll need to look for alternative means of transportation at this point, as we work to get the obstruction cleared from the tracks,” Allison said.

Crews are examining the train for damage, he said.
