sfpd_squad.jpg8:08 PM: A woman was arrested after she allegedly struck her husband in the head with a hammer while he was sleeping at a hotel in downtown San Francisco early Saturday morning, a police spokesman said today.

The attack was reported at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday at a hotel in the 300 block of Grant Avenue.

The 67-year-old victim and his 63-year-old wife reside elsewhere in San Francisco but had checked into the hotel where the attack occurred, police spokesman Sgt. Mike Andraychak said.

Officers responded and found the victim in the hotel lobby. He had blood visible on his head and said his wife had attacked him, Andraychak said.

He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for his head wound, which is not considered life-threatening.

Police went up to the hotel room where they arrested the wife, whose name was not immediately being released, Andraychak said.

After being treated for unspecified medical issues, she was then to be booked into jail on suspicion of attempted murder, according to Andraychak.
