Police said the 86-year-old man was approached from behind around 11:30 a.m. by someone who demanded money.

The suspect went through the victim’s backpack and took a coin purse, cash, credit cards and an ID, then fled, police said. He had not been found as of this morning.

The elderly man was not injured in the robbery.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.

Welcome to the holiday season! Another thug mugged a dude with his baby in his arms in the Mission. Perps will stop at nothing.

Maybe we shouldn’t carry anything valuable? Maybe just a few dollars in cash? C’mon, Muni on a Saturday morning? Nowhere is safe, apparently.
