veteran.jpgIn honor of Veterans Day, this Friday civilians and military alike will come together to help restore and rehabilitate the Presidio, a former military base turned national park as part of the Mission Serve program, with the support of Presidio Trust, Civic Assets, NCIRE, and AmeriCorps. Swords to Plowshares will also be leading an effort to assemble lunches for homeless veterans in the area.

Launched on Veteran’s Day 2009, Mission Serve has organized 11 civilian-military service projects in 11 US cities in honor of Veteran’s Day. For more information and to get involved, visit Mission Serve’s website at www.MissionServe.org.

In honor of those who’ve fought for our country, SF is celebrating Veterans Day with its annual Parade this Friday, starting at 11AM. The parade starts on Market and Montgomery and winds through Market to McAllister before ending at Civic Center Plaza.

If you’re traveling downtown, public transportation is strongly advised, though the F Market, 2 Clement, 5 Fulton, 6 Parnassus, 8x Bayshore Express, 8 San Bruno, 10 Townsend, 12 Folsom-Pacific, 19 Polk, 21 Hayes, 27 Bryant, 30 Stockton, 31 Balboa, 38 Geary, 45 Union-Stockton and 71 Haight Noriega might all be rerouted during the parade.
