sfpd_arrestcuffs.jpgPolice arrested a suspected bank robber in San Francisco today, one day after the man allegedly held up a bank blocks from City Hall and made off with thousands of dollars in cash, police said.

Jeremy Brown, 36, of San Francisco was arrested in connection with the robbery of the Market Street bank Thursday afternoon after an officer recognized the suspect from a wanted flyer, police said.

Officers responded at about 1:30 p.m. Thursday to a report of a robbery at the Redwood Credit Union at 1390 Market St., which is at the corner of Polk Street.

Police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said Thursday that a scruffy-looking white man walked into the bank and verbally demanded the money from a teller, who did not see a weapon.The teller complied, handing over several thousand dollars worth of U.S. currency, Esparza said.

An officer from the Police Department’s Southern Station was on patrol in the area of Polk and Geary streets, about 10 blocks from the scene of the robbery, when he spotted a man matching the suspect description.Brown was allegedly standing out on the sidewalk when he was spotted. He was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Brown was booked on suspicion of robbery and burglary, as well as on an outstanding warrant from Santa Clara County, police said.
