police-light-bar1.jpgA man fatally struck by a vehicle in San Francisco’s Excelsior District on Monday evening has been identified by the medical examiner’s office as 57-year-old Sulpicio Jimenez.

The accident was reported at 7:04 p.m. near the intersection of Mission Street and Excelsior Avenue, police said.

A 36-year-old man driving a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling north on Mission Street and had just passed Excelsior Avenue when he struck Jimenez, who was apparently crossing the street outside of the crosswalk, according to police.

Jimenez was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the Mitsubishi stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The crash remains under investigation, Esparza said.
