A red-tailed hawk that was shot with a nail gun earlier this month has been captured in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, a wildlife rescue group said today.
The injured juvenile hawk was trapped around 5 p.m. at the San Francisco Botanical Gardens, according to the Monterey-based group WildRescue. It was transported to Wildlife Center of Silicon Valley in San Jose, where wildlife care specialists are treating it, director Rebecca Dmytryk said.
Authorities do not know exactly when the hawk was injured, but Dmytryk said her organization received a photo of the hawk on Oct. 9. WildRescue believes the shooting was intentional, Dmytryk said.
There is a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting the hawk.
