A man stole a cash register at a store on San Francisco’s Castro Street on Monday morning after throwing coffee in the face of one of the store’s employees, a police spokesman said today.
The robbery was reported at about 6:45 a.m. at a store in the 100 block of Castro Street.
The suspect went into the store to get a cup of coffee, and after leaving briefly, he came back to get a refill, police spokesman Officer Carlos Manfredi said.
A 46-year-old man working at the store refilled the cup, at which point the suspect threw the coffee in his face, grabbed the cash register and ran out of the store, Manfredi said.
Officers responded but were not able to find the suspect, described as a black man around 40 years old who is about 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighs about 175 pounds and was wearing a black jacket and dark jeans, police said.
The store employee was treated at the scene by medics but did not require hospitalization, Manfredi said.
