policeblotter_sfa.jpgA dozen San Francisco police officers will be running in a 187-mile relay race up to the Napa Valley starting early Friday.

The 12 officers, two women and 10 men, are one of more than 300 teams participating in the Napa Valley Ragnar relay race, which starts at Marina Green in San Francisco on Friday and ends in Calistoga 24 hours later.

The police team, which includes a retired captain and a civilian member of the department, will leave San Francisco at 5:30 a.m. Friday after getting words of encouragement from police Chief Greg Suhr, who will give the opening address at the event.

The San Francisco Police Activities League is the official charity recipient of the race.
