sfo_aerial.jpgSan Francisco International Airport is hosting a “foreign object debris” walk today in which volunteers are cleaning up areas around the runways.

About 200 airport and airline employees will be brought by bus to the runways where they will comb the areas between the runways and remove any debris they find, airport spokesman Mike McCarron said.

Debris as small as a metal screw can result in serious engine damage, McCarron said. The airport has not had any recent problems resulting from such debris, he said.
