2:40 PM: Virgin America passengers who were inconvenienced when their flight from San Francisco International Airport to New York City was diverted early this morning will receive a refund and a credit, an airline spokeswoman said.
Flight 28, destined for John F. Kennedy International Airport, was diverted an hour after it took off from San Francisco because of a mechanical problem, Virgin America spokeswoman Patricia Condon said.
At 1 a.m., the Airbus A319 carrying 111 passengers was rerouted to an airport in Grand Junction, Colo., where it landed safely, Condon said.
The mechanical issue required inspection, she said.
Passengers were taken to a nearby Grand Junction hotel, and alternate flight arrangements were being made this morning.
Crew members reported that the travelers were patient throughout the delays, and Condon said the airline is refunding the affected passengers and providing them each with a $150 credit. Condon said the airline is also paying for hotel and food costs.
The airline has not disclosed details about the mechanical problem.
8:05 AM: A New York City-bound flight was diverted an hour after it took off from San Francisco International Airport early this morning because of a mechanical problem, an airport duty manager said.
Virgin America Flight 28 left SFO around midnight. At 1 a.m., the Airbus A319 carrying 111 passengers was diverted to an airport in Grand Junction, Colo., San Francisco airport duty manager Nancie Parker said.
A mechanical issue required inspection, she said.
Passengers were taken to a nearby Grand Junction hotel, and alternate flight arrangements are being made, she said.
