policeblotter_sfa.jpgSan Francisco police are investigating a case of suspected arson after a suspect was seen lighting a garage door on fire Friday evening.

The arson was reported at about 6:10 p.m. Friday in the 3000 block of 23rd Avenue in the city’s Merced Manor neighborhood, according to police.

A man told officers that he saw a suspect place papers against the garage door, pour liquid on the papers, and light them on fire, police said.

The man ran downstairs and tried to stop the suspect, who ran away. Firefighters responded and put out the fire before serious damage was done, according to police.

The suspect, who has not been found, is only described as wearing a dark blue or black hooded sweatshirt, police said.
