An 18-year-old man was shot in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood on Thursday afternoon and later died at a hospital, police said today.

The shooting was reported at 12:33 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Alemany Boulevard and Putnam Street.

The victim, identified by the medical examiner’s office as Kevin Hall, was one of two people in a car that was heading east on Alemany Boulevard shortly before the shooting, according to police.

When the car stopped, another vehicle pulled alongside it and a suspect got out of the passenger side of the car, walked to the rear of the victims’ vehicle and opened fire, police said.

The victims fled, driving to San Francisco General Hospital where Smith succumbed to injuries he suffered in the shooting, police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said.

The suspect or suspects fled in a vehicle described as a two-door silver sedan, possibly a Honda, according to police. No other suspect information was immediately available today, Esparza said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is encouraged to call the Police Department’s anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.
