San Francisco cab drivers and transit workers took to the streets near City Hall today as part of a protest leading up to a San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency board meeting this afternoon.
Cab drivers cruised the streets around City Hall and Civic Center Plaza, blocking traffic and honking their horns.
The activity was part of a two-hour “strike” by taxi drivers carried out from noon to 2 p.m. to protest changes including the implementation of electronic tracking systems in cabs and 5 percent credit card fees.
“MTA is assigned to regulate us,” cab driver Brad Newsham said.
“They have done the most abysmal job.”
A group of Muni operators were among a group of hundreds of protesters who rallied outside City Hall.
One Muni operator who asked to be identified as “Johnny” said was there to support taxi drivers and cable car operators. He said he has worked for Muni for 16 years.
Some taxi drivers and Muni operators walked the streets near City Hall chanting “MTA no more!” as the board meeting began at 1 p.m.
