A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a car in San Francisco’s Marina District early this morning, police said.
He was the second pedestrian seriously injured in an accident in the city within a seven-hour period.
The 22-year-old man was struck at Lombard and Pierce streets at about 1:20 a.m., police said.
Police originally reported that the man died, but police Lt. Troy Dangerfield later clarified that he remains on life support, although he is not expected to survive his injuries.
The driver stopped at the scene, and told police he did not see the pedestrian before the collision.
The accident came just hours after a woman was seriously injured when she was hit by a car while crossing a street in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood on Tuesday evening, police said.
The 33-year-old woman was struck shortly before 7 p.m. near the intersection of Crescent Avenue and Andover Street.
She was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for her injuries, which were considered life-threatening, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
That driver also stopped at the scene and cooperated with police, Esparza said.
