The San Francisco Police Department is warning officers to be alert this morning to possible demonstrations or public gatherings following the death of Osama bin Laden, police said.

Police will be paying particular attention to transit stations, places of worship and other areas where people gather to protest, Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

This alert is a precautionary measure, and police do not anticipate any problems, Dangerfield said.

San Francisco police are in contact with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to stay aware of any changes or possible threats.
