A man suffered life-threatening injuries when he was thrown to the ground during an sfpd_crimescene.jpgattack in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

The assault happened at about 12:10 p.m. near the intersection of Fifth and Mission streets.

The 51-year-old victim was approached by a 25-year-old man who threw him to the ground, according to police.

The victim was taken to California Pacific Medical Center’s Davies Campus to be treated for his injuries, police Officer Albie Esparza said.

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, was taken into custody.
