A man accused of a fatal shooting in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights neighborhood last weekend pleaded not guilty today to murder charges, a district attorney’s office spokesman said.
Keo Sobera, 24, is accused of murdering Pacific Som, 21, at about 7:20 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Appleton Avenue.
Prosecutors say Som’s death was connected to a fight and a prior shooting that left Rathanak Chea, 26, dead and another man injured.
Police have not released additional details about the earlier shooting, but Sobera is not considered a suspect in Chea’s death. The suspect in that shooting is still being sought by investigators.
Sobera was arrested Sunday at the San Francisco Hall of Justice following questioning by investigators.
At his arraignment hearing in San Francisco Superior Court today, he pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and being a felon in possession of a gun, according to district attorney’s office spokesman Seth Steward.
Sobera is being held on $3 million bail and is scheduled to return to court on June 14, Steward said.
“Gun violence has no place in San Francisco,” District Attorney George Gascon said in a statement.
“The district attorney’s office will continue to fight this reprehensible conduct that has such deadly consequences,” Gascon said.
