BikeLane.jpg11:44 AM (Bay City News): A taxi driver struck a bicyclist who apparently ran a red light at an intersection in San Francisco’s Mission District early Sunday morning, a police spokesman said today.

The collision was reported at about 12:55 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of 14th and Mission streets.

The bicyclist, a 46-year-old man, was traveling east on 14th Street when he was struck by a cab traveling north on Mission Street, police Lt. Troy Dangerfield said.

The bicyclist was taken to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that were considered life-threatening, although the victim’s condition was said to be improving today, according to Dangerfield.

The cab driver stopped at the scene, and both he and his passenger told police the bicyclist went through a red light at the intersection, Dangerfield said.

The crash remains under investigation, he said.

According to Mission Local, the cyclist was hit by a taxi at 1:30 Sunday morning at the intersection of 14th and Mission.

ML@L didn’t have any other details on the accident, or provide information on how police knew that a cab was responsible. They do note, however, that police expect to review security camera footage from a nearby gas station, which might have captured the incident.

The bicyclist, whose name hasn’t been released, is in critical condition according to police.

Last Monday at around 1:50am. A taxi struck a 28-year-old man as he was walking on Sutter and Polk St., and also did not stop. The driver in that case was eventually arrested.
