Art in Storefronts Launch
Now in its second year, the Market Street will come alive for the Art in Storefronts launch celebration. The event will include six storefront installations, five murals, receptions at three neighborhood galleries, the debut of two temporary public art sculptures, live music, and Off the Grid food trucks (and a partridge in a pear tree…just kidding). The event is free, and the new projects will be unveiled at the launch event on Friday, from 5-7 p.m., beginning at at 998 Market Street.

“Beauty and the Beat”- Friday Nights at the De Young
Friday Nights at the de Young offer a variety of free art programs, including live music, poetry readings, film screenings, dance shows, art exhibits, and lectures in the public spaces. This week, the Guardian is celebrating the exhibit, Balenciaga and Spain, with musicians, flamenco dancers, and local beauty makers. Friday, May 13 6pm -8:45pm at the de Young, 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive in Golden Gate Park.

Off the Grid: Friday Night Food Truck Party
Sure, they’re a hipster fad, but they can supply you with the city’s best fast, greasy food and this Friday, at Fort Mason, you can try the wares of around two dozen food trucks and vendors. The event lasts from 5 to 10, with a bar run by Alembic Bar and Magnolia Brewery. Live music starts at 6 and tents will be covering the entire area. Check out the event details to plan in advance which food vendors you’ll want to hit up! But save room, there are a lot of tempting choices.

SF OysterFest
Love oysters, Guinness, and live music? Then you’ll fit right in at this festival… All day long at Fort Mason, you’ll get cooking demos, the opportunity to participate in a shuck and suck competition, and an oyster history expo amongst the beers, Irish jigs, and live music.
Head out to the Great Meadow at Fort Mason any time after 11am!

14th Annual Bay Area Classic Yo-Yo Contest
From 10am until 4pm, Washington Square Park in North Beach will hold the prestigious Bay Area Triple Crown Yo-Yo Competition. Hopefuls will father as they compete for the title of Bay Area Classic Champion. Come watch the competition for free and learn to yo-yo from the pros!

100th Annual Bay-to-Breakers
Yes, it’s that time of year again. Set your alarms, pour your mimosas, and get your costumes and tennis shoes ready for the 100th annual Bay-to-Breakers 12k race. Registration for the event is technically closed, but you can still watch the crazies running by. The race starts at 7am at Howard and Beale and ends 4 hours later (or however long it takes) at the Western end of Golden Gate Park.
