Four men suspected of burglarizing a home in San Francisco’s Richmond District last week were arrested in Nebraska two days later, police said today.
The burglary occurred at about 3 p.m. on April 3 at a home in the 300 block of 29th Avenue.
The suspects broke into the home and stole heirloom jewelry and several hundred dollars in cash before fleeing in a vehicle that witnesses said had a New Hampshire license plate, police said.
The Police Department put the vehicle information into a national database, police Officer Albie Esparza said.
On April 5, a Nebraska State Patrol trooper on Interstate Highway 80 near Grand Island, Neb., noticed a car speeding on the highway. The trooper stopped the vehicle, and quickly learned through the database that it was the car wanted in connection with the San Francisco burglary, police said.
A search warrant was obtained for the car, which was found to contain several hundred pieces of jewelry and nearly $20,000 in cash, according to police.
Many of the items stolen in the Richmond District burglary were recovered, police said.
Four men were arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property. Their names are Camilo Ceron-Jimines, 22, of Burien, Wash.; Jonathan Rodrigues, 27, of Jackson Heights, N.J.; Ricardo Panuela, 38, of Union City, N.J.; and David Morales, 41, of Queens, N.Y.
Rodrigues and Morales were also arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer, police said.
The men will eventually be extradited back to San Francisco to be prosecuted for the crime, Esparza said.
