A San Francisco police motorcycle officer suffered minor injuries after he was thrown from his bike Wednesday afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.
The crash occurred on westbound state Highway 24 in Oakland just west of the Caldecott Tunnel at about 11:30 a.m., CHP Officer Sam Morgan said.
“It looks like the officer’s bike was bumped or tapped by another vehicle,” Morgan said.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the collision. The cause of the collision is under investigation, and Morgan said the driver of the car was cooperating with the CHP.
The officer, who was on-duty at the time of incident, was thrown from his bike in the collision and appears to have suffered minor injuries. He was taken to Highland Hospital for precautionary treatment, Morgan said.
Officers are allowed to take their police motorcycles home, and the officer was on his way to work at the time of the crash, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.
The CHP closed the tunnel’s middle bore to traffic at about 11:40 a.m., and it was reopened about one hour later, CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said.
