policeblotter_sfa.jpgTry as it might, Polk St. just can’t make a good name for itself. As the Ex reports, a reported increase sex work in the area has been tied to violence and general unpleasantness.

“Loads and loads of prostitutes” reportedly fill an area recently plagued with gunfire, as on April 3, “a pimp was shot multiple times in the doorway of Bob’s Donut & Pastry Shop at 1621 Polk St. Ricocheting bullets also struck and injured a call girl,” police Capt. Ann Mannix told the Ex.

In a strangely “shop local” note, Mannix also informs the Ex that “98 percent of sex workers in the city are not San Franciscans.” A citation for that statistic was not provided by either Mannix or the newspaper.

Regardless of the sex workers’ city of residence, the SFPD has decided to crack down on them and those who patronize them. In a recent 24-hour period, four sex workers and two pimps were arrested, SFPD says.
