books.jpgNews of Mission District bookstore Modern Times Bookstore’s temporary closing has caused much concern, worry, and even a a minor inside media baseball scandal. Would the closing truly be temporary? Would SF lose another yet another bookstore? But all that can be swept away with the news that the beloved store has found a new home.

After SFist reported that the store Appeal guest contrib Thomas Roche says “supposedly once told a customer they didn’t stock Ayn Rand books ‘on political grounds,'” had lost their lease, San Franciscans had held out hope that the (Roche, again) “explicitly progressive and aggressively opinionated bookstore with a robust selection of left-wing political treatises, race and class deconstructions and prison literature” would find a new storefront.

And they have! Mission Local reports that Modern Times will be making its home at 2919 24th St., between Alabama and Florida streets, a location Google Maps suggests was until August the home of the now shuttered “Live Fit Gym”.

Modern Times plans to close their 888 Valencia location on April 30, and to open in the new location by the end of May. In the meantime, there are sales and events galore.
