Great_horned_owl_chick.jpgStraight through Stow Lake, on Strawberry Hill sit a group of four hot chicks who are causing quite the stir in Golden Gate Park. As the Examiner reports, bird-watchers and nature-lovers now have a new favorite spot, where a great horned owl decided to make her nest atop a pine tree in the park.

The four chicks, or owlets, are all about a month old. Both mom and dad owl are always nearby. Barring food shortages and a few angry siblings, at least some of the owlets are expected to survive.

That’s not the only bird activity at Golden Gate Park: another nest of the cuddly owls can be found near the buffalo paddocks, and a nest of baby herons has also been spotted on Strawberry Hill, as seven great blue herons have set up camp on there as well.

Meanwhile, in Bernal Heights, residents moun the fourth anniversary of the passing of their family of great horned owls. According to Bernalwood, owls haven’t been sighted on Bernal Hill since April 9, 2007.
