BART service was back to normal by 12:30 a.m. this morning after a train struck a person in Oakland Tuesday night, which temporarily closed a station and led to delayed train service, a BART spokesman said.
The operator of the Pittsburg/Bay Point bound train reported hitting someone shortly after 10 p.m. as it entered the Rockridge station, spokesman Jim Allison said.
Emergency crews discovered the person on the trackway underneath the train. It appears the person had been laying on the tracks, Allison said.
The person was transferred to Highland Hospital. The extent of the injuries was not known as of 1 a.m.
The station reopened at 10:50 p.m. and trains were being single-tracked through the area as of 12:30 a.m., Allison said.
The incident and subsequent investigation led to delays of up to 30 minutes on east- and westbound trains on the Pittsburg/Bay Point-SFO line, Allison said.
