police-light-bar1.jpgA road race ended when one car rolled multiple times along Interstate Highway 280 and trapped several people inside the vehicle this afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded to reports of a crash on northbound Highway 280 near a Community College of San Francisco parking lot at about 4:30 p.m., CHP Sgt. John Carman said.

Arriving crews found a black sedan lying onto its side, with more than two people trapped inside. The car was blocking the off-ramp to Ocean and Geneva avenues on the northbound side of the highway, Carman said.

Witnesses at the scene said that in the moments before the crash, the sedan had been racing a Honda Accord, which sped down a nearby off-ramp. Officers haven’t caught up with the Accord yet, Carman said.

No serious injuries were reported, but Bay Area Rapid Transit police were called to assist the crash, according to the CHP. The Balboa Park BART station is located nearby.

Three lanes along the northbound side of the highway were still blocked as of about 4:50 p.m., Carman said.

It was unclear if drugs or alcohol was a factor in the crash.
