The theft is believed to have occurred sometime between 3:40 a.m. and 5:15 a.m. Tuesday at a car dealership in the 900 block of Van Ness Avenue, police Officer Albie Esparza said earlier today.
Esparza said the suspect rappelled down from the roof of the building, entered through a window and drove away in a yellow 2008 Lamborghini Gallardo two-door convertible, a car priced at more than $200,000.
“It’s a very distinctive car, for sure,” Esparza said. “I don’t know how far this person is going to go.”
Perhaps not very far, according to the latest police reports.
Sgt. Michael Andraychak said this afternoon that video surveillance footage from the Golden Gate Bridge captured the car’s county-crossing journey.
The yellow Lamborghini was seen traveling across the bridge sometime early Tuesday morning, Andraychak said.
“Additional video showed the same car entering Tiburon,” Andraychak said. The car exited the Marin County community “a short time later,” he said.
Police also said that it appears the thief exited and entered the dealership equally as quietly.
“It appears the suspect drove it out through a garage-type door,” Andraychak said.
The car belonged to Guy Fieri, a chef who has hosted several TV shows including “Guy’s Big Bite” on the Food Network and “Minute to Win It” on NBC, Fieri’s public relations firm confirmed.
Esparza said investigators are reviewing the dealership’s surveillance video for clues in the case.
Officials at the dealership, British Motor Car Distributors, were not immediately available for comment this morning.
Police are asking anyone who has information on the vehicle’s whereabouts to contact the department at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to TIP411.
