The stabbing was reported shortly before 11:15 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Mission Street and Richland Avenue, San Francisco police Officer Albie Esparza said.
A fight broke out at a nearby bar between the 28-year-old victim and three other people.
The altercation spilled out into the street, where the man was stabbed multiple times in the back and head, Esparza said.
He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he remained today with life-threatening injuries, Esparza said.
The suspects ran away after the stabbing and have not been found, he said.
They are all described as Hispanic men between about 30 and 33 years old. One was wearing a flannel jacket, baseball hat and blue jeans, and a second suspect was wearing a white shirt and blue jeans.
A detailed description was not available for the third suspect.
