Oakland police issued a community alert today for an incident on Tuesday night in which a woman was robbed and sexually assaulted in the Lake Merritt area.
Police said the woman was targeted as she came home Tuesday.
Police described the suspect as a black man in his 20s who is about 5 feet 8 inches tall.
They said anyone with information about the incident should call (510) 238-3641.
Police said that as a safety reminder, the public should always be aware of their surroundings and shouldn’t be distracted by cell phones and electronic devices.
Residents and visitors should also stay in well-lit and populated areas, and be especially alert when entering and exiting their vehicles, police said.
