Bay Area residents can expect a chilly and wet New Year’s Eve tonight as a light storm from the Gulf of Alaska is expected to move into the region, said Bob Benjamin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service.
Showers and light rain are expected in the North Bay beginning around sunset, Benjamin said.
The storm is expected to move over the Peninsula and into the rest of the Bay Area between 10 p.m. and midnight tonight, Benjamin said.
Light rain is expected in San Francisco between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., with moderate rainfall beginning between 10 p.m. and midnight.
Temperatures are expected to be in the lower 50s tonight and dropping down to the upper 30s or lower 40s on Saturday, Benjamin said. Colder temperatures could mean that some of the highest peaks in the Bay Area could see a dusting of snow, he said.
Light to moderate rain is expected to persist through the weekend, growing heavier Sunday night, although there could be a break in the rain Saturday afternoon and evening, Benjamin said.
The storm is expected to pass through the area late Sunday night, leading into what looks like could be a dry week ahead, Benjamin said.
