A 28-year-old woman was walking on the sidewalk of East Grand Avenue near Dubuque Avenue at about 9:45 p.m. when a Hispanic man in his late teens to early 20s who had been shadowing her from the station forced her to the ground, police said.
The suspect pulled on her scarf and jacket while pushing her head down and attempted to rape the woman, who fought back against her attacker, even as he punched her numerous times in the face.
The woman eventually broke free and took off running, police said.
Before the suspect fled westbound on East Grand Avenue toward Airport Boulevard, police said he stole money left in the woman’s wallet, which had fallen on the ground as she ran away.
The attacker was last seen wearing a gray pullover type hooded sweatshirt. He is light-skinned, with a clean-shaven face and black hair, weighs approximately 150 pounds, and stands about 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 5 inches tall.
