pg&e_bulb.jpgOfficials are investigating reports of a loud noise and smoke coming from a manhole, which could be linked to an equipment failure that knocked out power to 155 PG&E customers in San Francisco’s Marina District, a PG&E spokesman said.

A loud noise and smoke was seen near Chestnut and Avila streets just after 5 p.m., PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

PG&E crews were on scene at 5:40 p.m. and shut down a nearby circuit linked to the possible equipment failure.

The shutdown knocked out power to the 155 customers at about 5:50 p.m., Guidi said. He didn’t know when their power would be restored.

No injuries have been reported.
