shooting_nighttime.jpgPolice in San Francisco are investigating a gang-related shooting that left a man wounded in the head in the city’s Bayview District on Saturday morning.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired near Fitzgerald Avenue and Ingalls Street at around 9:30 a.m., San Francisco police Sgt. Michael Andraychak said.

The victim, a San Francisco man around 20 years old, was in his car near the intersection when another car pulled up alongside, Andraychak said.

Someone from inside the suspect vehicle fired 24 shots from an automatic assault weapon, Andraychak said, hitting the victim once in the head.

The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital, where he remains in serious but stable condition.

Suspect information was not available as of Sunday morning.

Anyone who might have witnessed the shooting is urged to contact the San Francisco police tip line at (415) 575-4444. Information can also be texted to police at TIP411 by referencing “SFPD.”
