alg_john_toomey.jpgA man who reportedly lost his job playing Santa at Macy’s Union Square in San Francisco for telling dirty jokes to adult visitors is taking his act to Lefty O’Doul’s restaurant.

Beginning Saturday, John Toomey will appear on a specially constructed North Pole Winter Wonderland stage at the restaurant from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. until Christmas Eve, Lefty’s spokesman Lee Houskeeper said.

His four-point contract stipulates that he is allowed to tell jokes, according to Houskeeper. He will also make more money than he did at Macy’s.

Houskeeper said Toomey accepted the job in part to help Lefty’s collect 10,000 toys for the 10th anniversary of the Firefighters Toy Program. The restaurant collects toys for the drive every Christmas Eve from dawn until last call.

Lefty’s will also have a celebration Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to welcome Toomey to his new post, Houskeeper said.

The restaurant is located at 333 Geary St., off Union Square.
