sffd_firefighters.jpgFirefighters extinguished a small blaze at a metal recycling plant at San Francisco’s Pier 70 this morning, a fire department spokeswoman said.

The fire was reported at 9:28 a.m. at Sims Metal Management, San Francisco fire Lt. Mindy Talmadge said.

The blaze was reported by workers, who said a pile of metal debris had caught fire, Talmadge said.

Firefighters quickly put out the fire and were clearing the scene by 11 a.m., she said.

The burning debris was “very smoky,” but no one was injured, Talmadge said.

The fire is not considered suspicious, she said.
